More Than a Meal: The Story Behind Our Fellowship Lunch

“The Fellowship Luncheon provides a welcome opportunity to step away from the demands of work, enjoy a great meal with coworkers, and spend time in meaningful fellowship. Hearing Scripture and the chaplain’s message leaves me feeling refreshed, reenergized, and better focused for the rest of the day. It’s a valuable reminder to pause, reflect, and reconnect both personally and professionally.” – Cameron Kato (ACT Estimator)

For more than five years, a simple tradition has quietly become one of the defining expressions of TruPoint Builders’ culture. What began as a business lunch has grown into something much more meaningful, a monthly Fellowship Lunch where employees gather to share a meal, encourage one another, hear a practical message from God’s Word, and spend time in prayer together.

For President David Maniscalco, however, the Fellowship Lunch wasn’t born out of a business strategy. It was the result of years of prayer and a desire to create something authentic that reflected the heart of the company.

“I’ve been in business for over thirty three years,” David shares. “For a long time, I prayed that God would show us something natural that fit our company culture. Nothing I came up with ever seemed quite right. Then, in His timing, the Fellowship Lunch came together.”

The original purpose was straightforward: bring the company together. While field operations aren’t always able to step away from active jobsites, the luncheon created an opportunity for office staff and available team members to connect, share company updates, welcome new employees, and simply spend time together. As the gatherings evolved, David felt led to shift the focus away from business altogether and toward something more lasting.

“About a year and a half ago, we removed the business portion entirely,” he explains. “Now it’s simply about fellowship, prayer, encouragement, and sharing God’s Word.”

Since making that change, the Fellowship Lunch has continued to grow, not only in attendance but in impact. What once lasted just over an hour now regularly fills two hours as conversations deepen, relationships strengthen, and people intentionally make time to invest in one another.

To David, the Fellowship Lunch represents the very heart of TruPoint Builders.

“If you want to see our culture in action, this is it,” he says. “Every day we’re moving a hundred miles an hour in different directions. Once a month, we stop, sit around the table together, and focus on God’s Word, fellowship, and breaking bread together.”

That commitment reflects the company’s mission of building more than successful projects. TruPoint Builders strives to build people, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities for individuals to grow both personally and professionally. David believes those values begin from within.

“We’re in the people business,” he explains. “We don’t sell ceilings, ceilings are a commodity. What we really provide is service, and service starts with genuinely caring about people.”

That philosophy extends throughout every aspect of the Fellowship Lunch. Attendance is always voluntary, and the devotional is intentionally designed to be welcoming for everyone, regardless of their background or where they are in their faith journey.

“When I first started, I wanted to teach through the book of Ephesians because it’s my favorite book of the Bible,” David recalls. “But I realized many people didn’t have that foundation. That’s why we shifted to topical messages. We still use Scripture, but we present it in a way that’s practical, relatable, and easy for everyone to understand.”

That intentional approach has become one of the luncheon’s greatest strengths. Rather than creating an environment that feels intimidating, the goal has always been to create one where people feel comfortable, encouraged, and valued.

David has witnessed countless memorable moments over the years, but two remain especially meaningful. One occurred when his parents attended a Fellowship Lunch featuring a prison ministry leader whose life had been transformed through faith. Just weeks later, David’s mother passed away.

“I’m incredibly grateful she was able to experience that day,” he says. “She had heard me talk about what God was doing, but seeing it firsthand meant everything.”

Another milestone came after LFT joined the previously named Houston Interiors, now TruPoint Builders, family. The company had outgrown its meeting space, so the luncheon moved to Karbach Restaurant. Instead of sitting together in one large group, employees gathered around smaller tables, creating more personal conversations and more intimate moments of prayer. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and the format has remained ever since.

The impact has extended well beyond employees. Vendors, ministry partners, and guests have attended over the years, many commenting that they’ve never experienced anything similar within a business environment. For David, that’s a reminder that culture is something people don’t simply hear about, they experience it.

His hope for every person who attends is simple. First, that they would recognize their need for a Savior. Beyond that, he wants every employee to leave encouraged, knowing they matter and that they are part of something much bigger than themselves.

Looking back, David believes the Fellowship Lunch has taught him one lesson above all others:

Trust God’s timing.

“I prayed about this for nearly twenty years,” he reflects. “If I had forced one of my own ideas, I don’t think it would have lasted. But when God builds something, He blesses it.”

Today, the Fellowship Lunch continues to grow alongside TruPoint Builders. More than a monthly meal, it has become a tangible reflection of the company’s values, a place where faith, fellowship, encouragement, and genuine relationships come together around one table.

When asked to describe the Fellowship Lunch in just three words, David doesn’t hesitate.

“Intimate. Impactful. God-honoring.”

Those three words have come to define not only the Fellowship Lunch, but the culture TruePoint Builders continues to build every day.
